Traditionally, I sum up the results of the year and choose the best of the best games of this year...
to my taste 😃
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
No open world and grinder service. Only a very funny and interesting story adventure. Well-developed deep characters are constantly talking, reacting to your actions and interacting with each other both in dialogue and in battles. Which, by the way, are tactical and unusual - you need to summon each of the Guardians, for an effective (and spectacular) battle)
Also I want to note the diverse and beautiful locations)
You must play!
Diablo 2: Resurrected
A great remaster of the original game, Blizzard did everything right. They didn't break (or re-forge) what works, made awesome cutscenes, super neat graphics updates, cleaned up the music, and didn't touch anything else. That's it, the game is really Resurrected!
Highly recommended!
Oh yeah. Now you can play it on the controller! An unusual experience.
The Ascent
Cyberpunk and diabloid. How did they mix it?)
The world of Veles, planet-city, is impressive, it's super detailed and saturated, though not too interactive. Shops and interactive elements are far apart, although at times it plays to the advantage of the atmosphere.
You rise from the very bottom of this world, confront the system.
The visuals and sensations of the game are very pleasant, shooting, hitting, sounds and special effects are other achievements of the game.
Although hunting for loot is not the main thing here, there are enough weapons and improvements and active abilities (implants).
For some reason, it reminded me of the good old Syndicate.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
A very cozy and beautiful adventure for a few evenings. Kena herself and rotten little creatures interact very nicely with each other and with their surroundings.
Although the game is made by a studio that used to do animation, it is played very well. Super responsive battles, interesting progressive levels, a sense of progress and interest in exploring the world. I want more)
Humankind
Everything was done as it should be. It feels, plays and draws like Civilization, but everything happens much more fun. The creators realized that this is a great idea: mix all the states, religions, historical events and give players more freedom.
And the music... Mmmm.
⚠️ Careful! Deciding to play for 5 minutes before going to bed, you can wake up in the morning with the built state)))
Age of Empires 4
New interesting mechanics, unusual factions, well transferred the essence of Age of Empires 2. Everything is familiar, but point changes radically change the game. For example, it is very convenient to make phalanges and different formations from units.
Although the graphics are not detailed, they are very stylish and informative. The reactions are responsive, the sounds of the game are super effective and useful, and the music complements the whole action.
I would especially like to note the campaigns in which the videos are shot in reality and not only teach the mechanics of the game, but also, as always, are devoted to real historical events.
Super attention to detail:
With the change of eras, not only the appearance of buildings, their style, but also the speech of the characters changes, that is, by the last eras, the characters will speak a more modern language. As the soldiers improve, they change their appearance and there are many similar little details throughout the game.
I definitely recommend it, but I also understand that, unfortunately, interest in real-time strategies is no longer the same and the price per purchase can restrain the popularity of the game.
Yes, the RTS Legend is back, but it's no longer needed.
It Takes Two
If there is a partner with whom you can play, then you need to do it) The game is awesome, fun, quite complex, a mixture of very different settings and game mechanics, the best cooperative and family game. Although it is unlikely that it will really help to save the family.
Noteworthy Games
Riftbreaker
I don't know how they came up with the idea of combining Starcraft, Diablo and Factorio, but the result turned out to be the right one) An interesting combination of resource extraction, construction and battles, plus cool music. I wasn't enough for long though.
Forgotten City
An investigation of mysteries, a non-linear plot and Groundhog Day in a cursed ancient Roman city. Very nice to play and feel immersive. This is a full-fledged release of the mod for Skyrim. And... Deathloop rests)
Black Book
I couldn't help but mention it. Yeah, I don't really play card and turn-based games right now. But the plot, Slavic and Komi-Permyak themes are very captivating. Highly recommended.
Eternal Cylinder
Cute and small game about a giant cylinder that rolls across the planet and destroys all living things, and you try to save small creatures by helping them evolve.
Psychonauts 2
An unexpected discovery. Yes, I've heard the first part being praised, but I've never played or watched the playthrough myself. Really blows up the brain with unusual mechanics, interestingly written, the game gives only positive emotions)
We need more games like this)
Life Is Strange: True Colors
The game hooked me with emotions. Empathize with Alex and can immerse yourself in the life of this town. I really like where the series is going.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
The advantage of the game is not at all a fast loading of levels) This is just an awesome very high-quality interactive adventure cartoon.
Resident Evil: Village
I didn't want to add this part to the list of the best games, but could not resist Lady Dimitrescu 😃And the atmosphere is cool.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Although after Andromeda it is not known what will happen to Mass Effect, but the Legendary Edition turned out to be... a normal reminder of the great series. Yes, in some places the lighting works worse than it was originally, but the remaster is excellent.
Mind Scanners
Super small and minimalistic game about... Cyberpsychos) Who will be "cured" and who will you let go? You need to read to analyze the psyche of the characters and make difficult decisions. It was fun to play. Break the Structure!
Interfaces, of course, are annoying)
